Who Else Wants to Join Me in Ridding the World of 100 Million Pounds in the Next 10 Years?

There's a Growing Worldwide Epidemic and It's Time to Do Something About It

Obesity Is a Growing Worldwide Epidemic

Hello and welcome. I’m so glad you’re here. Since you’re on my About page, I imagine you’d like to know a little bit about me and what I can do for you. There’s an epidemic in the U.S. and worldwide in general. According to the National Institutes of Health, in the U.S. alone, there are 15 million people who are 100 pounds or more overweight. And according to some studies, approximately one half of the U.S. population is “just overweight.”

That’s around 150 million people! I’d say that’s an epidemic! Well, I’ve decided to do something about this tragedy. I’ve decided to make it my mission to assist *at least* 1 million people to lose 100 pounds per person by July 1, 2026. That means I plan to assist these people to remove from their lives forever a total of 100 million pounds! Why do I want to do this? What makes me qualified to take on a mission like this?

I was part of the epidemic until 2009

Because up until January 2009, I was in that group of people that was 100 pounds or more overweight. And I decided to do something about it. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Rick Smith. I was a pretty skinny kid growing up. (That’s me in the black and white picture. I’m the good lookin’ one on the left. 106292462_

And when I got married in 1979 I was 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighed 180 pounds. I was able to eat anything I wanted to and I really didn’t have to worry too much about my weight.

After I got married I found out about good Southern cooking (my wife is from the South) and I started packing on the pounds. Plus, I was in business for myself in the mid 90s. I was working a lot of late nights and I wasn’t eating correctly. Part of it was the Southern food. Part of it was junk food. Part of it was lack of exercise.

Add to that the late nights, and you have a recipe for some serious weight gain. As the kids came along, there was additional stress. We had a business fail and a couple of kids had some serious health challenges. So all of this just added to the stress. This made it easier to use food as a crutch and to use it as an addiction to self-medicate.

As a result of all of that, by 2009 I had ballooned up to 333 pounds. I was no longer just overweight.

I was what doctors call “morbidly obese.” Here’s what I looked like in 2008. (That’s me with the circle around my head.) And here’s the worst part. I wasn’t doing anything to resolve the situation and I didn’t really care.

We’d had various types of exercise equipment but I never did anything with any of it. Then one morning in January 2009 I woke up and told myself, “Today’s the day to start getting your health under control.” I don’t know why I had that thought. It was like something snapped inside of me and I knew I had to get serious about my health. I started pretty slow. I started by walking on the treadmill. I was so out of shape I couldn’t do a mile in 20 minutes on the treadmill.

I also began to set some small goals to get my health under control. The next step was to begin controlling my portion size. I didn’t really worry too much about what I was eating at this point. I just began controlling my portions. My wife and I did that by buying nine inch plates. Then we ate only one serving from that nine inch plate.

It just continued from there. I began tracking what I was eating (and I continue to do so today). I began learning about proper nutrition. And that in itself is somewhat odd because my stepmom is a registered dietician. I grew up eating proper, nutritious meals. And yet, I had to relearn how to eat properly. That’s a rather sad verdict on me. I obviously didn’t pay attention all those years ago. As I began to learn about proper nutrition, I began to set better goals. I became much more conscious of what I put in my mouth. If I ate something unhealthy I knew I had to do something to counteract what I’d eaten.

Racing to outrun my weight

As a result, by October 2011, I had gone from 333 pounds to 216 pounds. I’d lost 117 pounds in a little over 2 ½ years. A major part of that journey was running. In 2010 I ran some “unofficial” 5K (or 3.1 mile) races. I’m continuing to maintain this healthy lifestyle today. For example, I ran 4 miles this morning.

Even though I’ve gained back a few of those pounds that I removed from my life, I still continue to eat healthy most of the time. I work out four to six times per week, with five or six workouts per week being typical. I do plan to get my weight back to where it was but I’m still maintaining a weight loss of 100+ pounds less than where I started in 2009.

TOU Finish Line 2013

I have a better quality of life than I’ve had in many, many years. It’s now easy for me to get up off the couch or climb a flight of stairs. In addition to my workout, I walk a couple of miles per day when possible. After a hard workout when I burn several hundred calories during the workout, I feel great!

Why am I doing this?

After seven years and a few months, I still continue to maintain that lifestyle. One of my reasons for starting this health journey is so I can be on this earth for as long as possible for my wife, my sons, and my grandson. Nothing gives me greater joy than to play “chase” with my 22 month old grandson. He loves it when Grandpa chases him up and down the hall. I couldn’t have done that 8 or 10 years ago. That’s my grandson on the right “driving” his dad’s car.

Who else wants to join me on a journey to take back their lives?

So if you’re frustrated with not being able to get up of the couch with ease or you’re completely out of breath after climbing one set of stairs, then let me show you how to take control of your life and health again. Imagine what your life would be like if you were able to remove all of your excess weight and keep it off forever. How important would that be to you? More important than that, how important would that be to your wife, your children, and your grandchildren?

If you take your health journey seriously you can leave a legacy for those you love, teaching them to be healthy. Then we can work together to rid the world of so much excess weight. Excess weight is a direct cause of serious health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, some cancers, and a whole host of other challenges, including death.

I strongly encourage you to join me on this journey. Come along for the ride. Work alongside me as I challenge myself to remove the 13 pounds I’ve gained back over the last five years or so. We’ll do it together. I’ve done it before and I know I can do it again. If you’re interested in coming along with me on this journey and once again taking control of your life and your health, simply click the button right below this section that says “Get the #1 Secret Now!” Then when the popup window appears enter your first name and your best email address and click the button that says “Give Me the #1 Secret Now!” You’ll be taken right to the video where I’ll reveal to you my #1 secret for removing your excess weight and keeping it off forever.
